Sublime Timescapes, 2013 – ongoing. (Primarily) Analogue images printed on silk; additional materials and formats possible. When Time is understood as imaginary, and Space understood as real, Images are forms of virtual material, projected, remembered, embodied, stored, projected, and woven with time.
As film stamps light in material, then material performs as a form and record of time. Using abstractions of nature to experience the Sublime and Time as landscapes, bring nuances of a multilayered view of reality into relationships of Place, Memory, Structures of Flow, and differences and congruences in embodied cognition and algorithmic systems used in Artificial Intelligence. The differences are discovered through relationship, in the way human imagination and perception conjugates in the viewing field. The ability to extract and invent new forms in visual flow through Mental Turbulence are documented in Art History texts on painting. The images bridge between dialogues in painting and photography, touching upon a human ability to develop Pattern Recognition. While pattern recognition is often discussed relative to Artificial Intelligence, the images remind viewers of an embodied ability to extract and invent new, imaginary forms through their discreet nervous systems.
