Chromatic Tissues

Chromatic Tissues, 2021 – ongoing, gouache, washi paper, textile glue. Each work is part of the series intended to remain together as a singular work. The framing of these works is in progress as the site of meaning is also embedded in the frames. To learn more about this work in progress or discuss exhibition ideas contact: mariammanart@icloud.com Each Chromatic Tissue is named after the invisible, ineffable qualities of life, in particular human life that endures and transforms suffering to knowledge while witnessing beauty. The works can be interpreted in many ways, including the value of life, ‘papers’ related to the acknowledgement of citizenry or personhood. The dimensional aspects of paper, often flattened, are formed into ripples that hold form. Synesthesia, believed to be present in 2-4% of the world population, aims to posit a higher of people who have this experience, since perception relies upon awareness of the subconscious and somatic realms. Further meaning could be a warning about human spirits with caution to those who deny experience of reality. In a world made of myths, each body becomes a needle and thread*. Truth has often been and remains dangerous, alas heart-centered people carry this difficult choice.
