RELATIVELY DIMENSIONAL STILL-LIFE, 1919 IN 2017

Eternal Return is Repetition; but the Repetition that selects, the Repetition that saves (Nietzsche 39-40).

RELATIVELY DIMENSIONAL STILL-LIFE, 1919 IN 2017, 5, archival ink 13 x 19 inch digital negative prints on Bergger S.A. OHP Digital Darkroom Film. The film allows light to pass through. The ink is archival. The specific material is no longer made. The images are to be layered by the collector and displayed in a light box to compose a single artwork. 1/3 was exhibited/collected in Oslo, Norway. 2/3 and 3/3 remain. The candle, a tradition in Dutch still-life painting, is realised in CMYK tones. The layers of images perform a representation of the way light and visual perception flow between vision and digital screens. Evocative of Gerhard Richter’s, Candles, yet instead of referring to the mirror as repetition of object/subject, the tilt of one candle and repetition of layers works with today’s technology for the notion of transcendence and transiti, inviting the viewer’s fantasy and imagination of burning and wax accumulation.
