Jakob’s Ladder ( סֻלָּם יַעֲקֹב ), 2026, installation, cedar wood, ribbon, cotton, seawater, ink. The resulting pigments painted in seawater and ink match the colors of the sunset over the Mediterranean sea in the region of Napoli, Italy. The installation of the work is intended to be installed with the opposing Telescope Campi Flegrei ( φλέγω), 2026, another painting with ink and seawater appearing as the sunset over Campi Flegrei. The ideas is to discuss the perpetual changes in landscape using visual installation art, to give meaning and context to the eventual reformation of the lives and landscape. In this case the eruption of a super volcano is something the people of Napoli seem to be accustomed to. The work exposes ideological allegory in a secular perspective of geological empathy or understanding the magnetic and resonance landscape upon which we live with life on earth. The work developed from Bridge of Jakob, 2010 and Dreamtime Landscape, 2024.
